ประวัติความเป็นมา คอนัวร์ (Conure) เป็นนกที่มีถิ่นกำเนิดอยู่แถบลาตินอเมริกา จากแม็กซิโกลงมาถึง หมู่เกาะคาริบเบียนและชิลีใต้ คอนัวร์พันธุ์ที่ใหญ่ที่สุดคือ พาทาโกเนี่ยน มีความยาวประมาณ 17.5 นิ้ว และคอนัวร์พันธุ์ที่เล็กที่สุดคือ เพ้นท์เท็ต มีความยาวประมาณ 8.5 นิ้ว คอนัวร์มาจากภูมิอากาศหลากหลาย ภูมิประเทศหลายแบบ จากทุ่งหญ้าแถบซาแวนนา (เป็นทุ่งหญ้าในเขตมรสุมของอเมริกา) จนถึงที่ป่าในเขตร้อนชื้นและบริเวณภูเขาที่มีอากาศค่อนข้างเย็น คอนัวร์เป็นนกที่รักความสงบและอยู่กันเป็นฝูงใหญ่ คำว่า conure (คอนัวร์) มาจากคำว่า Conurus (คอนูรัส) และมีชื่อทางวิทยาศาสตร์ว่าAratinga "อาราทิงก้า" รังของคอนัวร์ในป่าตามธรรมชาติมักจะอยู่ตามหน้าผาหินทราย (sandstone cliff) หรือบางทีก็จะอาศัยอยู่บนต้นไม้ที่มีโพรง เพราะเหตุจากสีสันอันสดใสของ Sun conure และ Jenday จึงเป็นแรงกระตุ้นให้นักเลี้ยงนกนำคอนัวร์สองพันธุ์นี้เข้ามาเพาะเลี้ยงใน ประเทศอเมริกา Sun เป็นคอนัวร์พันธุ์แรกที่ถูกนำเข้ามาในสหรัฐอเมริกา เมื่อประมาณปี ค.ศ. 1960 และเริ่มถูกขยายพันธุ์นำออกขายเป็นสัตว์เลี้ยง
